In Whangarei we found a fernery.
My passage to adulthood has had it's fair share of grief and death (on top of all that good stuff too like love, maturity, financial independence etc.) I have entered this realm of the "real world" with existential anxiety hanging over my head. Knowing how short life can be, I feel an urge to do something CRAZY to make it worth while. So here I am, a ticket to New Zealand, a biologist boyfriend, and three months (700 miles) of walking planned with our only possessions carried on our backs. Let me tell you, I am no athletic star, a hiking outdoorsy maniac- I am a typical American (lazy) girl doing something stupid to change her world- maybe a quarter life crisis? Quitting the job, the house, the financial security, the pets, the daily grind/life/schedule- WE ARE OFF TO NEW ZEALAND, a pilgrimage of sorts, to prove that yes, we can appreciate walking- just WALKING- while we still can.
